Alsace: a new heavy goods vehicle toll from 1 January 2027
R-PASS will be introduced in Alsace
From 1 January 2027, heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes travelling on certain roads in Alsace will be subject to a new distance-based toll called R-PASS. Eurotoll
R-PASS – A new tolling technology in France
Unlike traditional French motorway tolls, R-PASS uses satellite-based tolling technology (GNSS), which calculates the toll based on the kilometres actually travelled on the tolled road network.
To use electronic tolling on the R-PASS network, vehicles will therefore need to be equipped with a satellite toll device compatible with the European Electronic Toll Service (EETS).
