The road toll system in Portugal
In Portugal, the electronic toll system works through OBUs interacting with remote antennas when passing through toll stations and detection gantries. This dialog triggers a transaction that is then transmitted by the concessionaire to Lumesia to be charged. All vehicles using the 1700 km long motorway network as well as the 2 bridges of the system: The use of Ponte Vasco de Gama and Ponte 25 de Abril is subject to road toll payment.
