The road toll system in Spain: VIA -T
The electronic road toll in Spain works through OBUs interacting with remote antennas when passing through toll stations. This dialogue triggers a transaction that is then transmitted by the concessionaire to Lumesia to be charged .
The amount of road toll invoiced will depend on the vehicle category (two categories for the heavy goods vehicles) that can be defined on the basis of 3 factors:
- The total height of the vehicle
- The permissible gross vehicle weight (GCVWR of the towing vehicle for heavy goods vehicles)
- The number of axles in contact with the ground
